Photography Practice

I fell behind in my photography lessons, so I am taking advantage of some time off from the day job to play through some lessons.

So please bear with me while I share what I am learning.

I have never used a tripod, or a self-timer with my photography.  So I am learning to become familiar with both of these tools, and combine them with a slow shutter speed.

Turns out that this is fun!

Light Painting

All I had were two flash lights to play with for light painting.

I may have to invest in a variety of lights!

I also went to one of my favorite places to practice these elements.  I have shared Douglas Falls with you before.  Click here and here.

Driving back home, Hubby and I pulled over and took the time to snap a couple of cloudy evening shots of Lake Roosevelt (formed by the Columbia River).

Marcus Island

My Mama keeps asking for an air conditioner cover, and I keep hoping she will forget.

She never forgets…must be part elephant.

So I finally chose a pretty pink rose print (to complement her sofa) and made a cover for her air conditioner.

I don’t have a photo.  Mama doesn’t have the cover yet, either.  I was hoping to be able to bring it to her by her birthday, but…you know, COVID and all that.

Soon, Mom!  (Yes…she reads my posts!)

Since I don’t have sewing related photos (I have done some quilting), I am giving you a photo heavy post of a walk I took earlier this week.

I am super blessed to have Marcus Island across the street from me…I love to visit here!

“THERE is something in the autumn that is native to my blood—
Touch of manner, hint of mood;
And my heart is like a rhyme,
With the yellow and the purple and the crimson keeping time.”

And bask in the garden of paradise.

Old Marcus and Design Boards

I was blessed to have my son, and his family, visit for their spring break.  I had to work, but we managed some time together.

One of the things that we did, was to take a little walk around Old Marcus

Every year, Lake Roosevelt is drawn down, and reveals the old site.  One can see the crumbling town foundations that are normally under water.

My granddaughter has a little sewing project going when she visits.

Alyssa's Kitty Cushion

The kitty will become a cushion, but it is slow progress since we don’t live close to each other.

The family has gone back home, and I have spent the morning making small design boards.  This small project has been on my to-do list for a long time.

Mini Design Boards

I used pieces of scrap foam core and batting to make mine.

They range from 9″ to 15″ square.

Mini Design Boards

I used the tutorial from Bee in my Bonnet.  These are useful little boards!

A Walk on the Beach

The spring afternoons have been so beautiful!  Hubby and I took advantage and went for a walk on the beach.

I thought I would share a little bit of that walk with you.

The willows are coming out of dormancy.

That’s me.  Hubby thought you should have some perspective.  Those willows are big!

This driftwood looks like snakeskin!  This is great texture inspiration for free motion quilting!

A gorgeous afternoon!  Just look at that blue sky!

Someone built a home in the willows.

Probably not whoever made these tracks!

The crocus weren’t at the beach.  They greeted us when we came home!

The boys greeted us too.  Four cats wanted some attention.

Here’s one of them:
