A Stroll in the Garden

The journey is never ending. There’s always gonna be growth, improvement, adversity; you just gotta take it all in and do what’s right, continue to grow, continue to live in the moment. -Antonio Brown

People are like dirt. They can either nourish you and help you grow as a person or they can stunt your growth and make you wilt and die. -Plato

Between stimulus and response there is a space. In that space is our power to choose our response. In our response lies our growth and our freedom. -Viktor E. Frankl

Seeds of faith are always within us; sometimes it takes a crisis to nourish and encourage their growth. -Susan L. Taylor

Sometimes we may ask God for success, and He gives us physical and mental stamina. We might plead for prosperity, and we receive enlarged perspective and increased patience, or we petition for growth and are blessed with the gift of grace. He may bestow upon us conviction and confidence as we strive to achieve worthy goals. -David A. Bednar

A Stroll in the Garden

If ever there were a spring day so perfect,
so uplifted by a warm intermittent breeze

Balsam Arrowroot

that it made you want to throw
open all the windows in the house

Balsam Arrowroot

and unlatch the door to the canary’s cage,
indeed, rip the little door from its jamb,

Balsam Arrowroot

a day when the cool brick paths
and the garden bursting with peonies

Balsam Arrowroot

seemed so etched in sunlight
that you felt like taking

Crown Imperial

a hammer to the glass paperweight
on the living room end table,

Crown Imperial

releasing the inhabitants
from their snow-covered cottage

Crown Imperial

so they could walk out,
holding hands and squinting

Rusted Wheel

into this larger dome of blue and white,
well, today is just that kind of day.

Sunday Picnic

“Do not let Sunday be taken from you.  If your soul has no Sunday, it becomes an orphan.” -Albert Schweitzer

“Sunday is the golden clasp that binds together the volume of the week.” -Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

Sunday was such a glorious spring day!

Hubby packed up a picnic lunch and we had a date!  We hiked up the hill behind the house, sat on the damp ground, and soaked up the sunshine.

Lunch was great, the view was great, and the company the best of all!

We took advantage of a gorgeous lazy Sunday afternoon, and practiced with our cameras.  I have a new pocket camera, and don’t know how to use it.

One of my first shots was this black and white of the Columbia River:

I have no idea how my camera was set on black and white display, but I like the results!

Another first shot was a photo of our feet; I thought I was turning the camera off, but pressed the wrong button.  I deleted that shot.

There is a lot of balsam arrowroot sharing their bright cheerful faces in my part of the woods.

I don’t know the name of this delicate, tiny harbinger of spring:

Smallflower Woodland Star

*Update: The above is a Smallflower Woodland Star, or Prairie Star.  I found lots on Google; this link will get you started if you care to research it.

Continuing to practice the macro setting on the pear blossom:

I shall share more from this wondrous date when I have the opportunity.
