Once upon a time and long ago, I purchased a sock monkey kit at a quilt show. Sometime in the 90’s.
Seems like I have lots of stuff from the 90’s and then I dropped off the face of the earth in terms of a crafty life. Generally speaking.
Anyway…
I want this UFO kit out of my sewing studio.
In spite of how popular sock toys are, or were, and especially sock monkeys, I have never made any.
I should have made these in the 90’s! My hands were young then.
Who knew how much they would hurt making these now? Ha!
I’m not sure why I was attracted to these.
I don’t think that they are all that cute.
Maybe a bright red ribbon to dress them up would help?
Yup. I still have a Valentine wall hanging up.
St. Patrick’s Day is a good day to change that out, right? Sigh.
I am always behind.
What do you think of sock monkeys? Have you made any? Have you purchased any? Do you collect them or give them for gifts?
Keep creating! It nourishes your soul!
HA! Never was into the sock monkey thing. Are those in the photos ones you made?
I understand about hesitating to ‘get rid of’ anything acquired for ‘future projects’, but am getting better at it. And it feels very freeing.

Yup, I did indeed make the ones in the photos, Laura. And now I have the monkeys off my back. Ha, ha! 🙂

A favorite friend once gave me a sock monkey, but I abandoned it when I went to college, and that’s the last I’ve seen of sock monkeys. I do think they’re cute, but can’t imagine I’d want to make one. Good for you for getting it done!

Thank you! I am happy to have these out of the sewing studio. Amazing what one collects over the years…the stuff we think we are going to make someday. 🙂

My grandmother made me, and all my cousins, sock monkeys. I still have mine (which she stuffed with old nylons). My grandmother also made us stick horses, using the sock monkey sock for the horse head. I still have that, too. Years later, my aunt made sock monkeys for my kids and me. I still have those, too . Yeah, I’m a bit nostalgic. Ha. (And don’t tell, but I looked up the other day and realized I still have some Santas on a shelf!! – oops)

You have good reason to keep those sock monkeys…precious memories! I don’t have any nostalgia with these, except a nice memory from a quilt show. Hopefully, I can gift them, and they will become a keepsake for someone.
Santas on a shelf…ha, ha! I never collected those! 🙂

I have my Santa gourds on the fireplace mantle year-round. And a r/w/b angel hangs up year-round, too. We like them! HAHA! {{Hugs}} ~smile~ Roseanne

I thought I had taken all my Christmas stuff down. It is a framed wool appliqué of 6-7? Santas 😂

Hi Laura! I’ve never made a sock monkey and never had a desire to do so. You did an excellent job on these!! They look great. Not my cuppa but that’s okay, too. Now it’s no longer a UFO! {{Hugs}} ~smile~ Roseanne

Not my cuppa either! But I must’ve thought they were at that point in my life. Ha! They will be gifted to someone who will lov them!😁

Never had a sock monkey. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Perhaps they will grow on you.

They could grow on me, but I will save them for the right time to gift them.😁

I’m not too sorry to have missed out on the 1990s sock monkey thing! I do remember making a hobby horse out of an old broom handle and stuffed white sock – but that was many many years ago!

I never made a sock money, and, I have never been enamored with them…early zoo memory of one eating something unmentionable probably turned me off. Love yours and it is always good to get something like that done and out of the pile!

Now I can say ‘been there, done that’. I am sure glad that I don’t have your attached memories! Having said that…I loved my dog so much, but he definitely ate unmentionables, not to mention rolling in turkey poop. Argh!Ha, ha!😉

They certainly were very popular at one time. I never made one or bought one. They would look cute dressed up for Christmas with lots of red ribbons and bells – maybe – 🙂

I think so, too, Sharon! I am definitely getting some ribbon for them! 🙂
