July OMG Goal 2019

I have never made a Disappearing Nine Patch (D9P) quilt.  Don’t ask me why this has been on my bucket list; it just has.

So when I saw that Julie Cefalu was hosting a D9P quilt along, I decided that now was the time to make one.

Julie’s instructions, diagrams, tips and even a size chart (for 5″ charm squares) is making an easy project just that much easier.  I really appreciate her efforts!

I have fabric that I want to use up (and thread, too), so I am making blocks with choices that I would definitely not normally choose.  That’s okay…someone somewhere will like it, and I am learning about value and design.

I have sewn 20 nine patch blocks.

I have even ‘spun’ the intersecting seams!

My goal for July is to cut these blocks up and sew them back together into a flimsy.

Thank you, Julie, for the diversion and the fun!

  1. Hi Laura! Excellent job so far. I’ve never made one of these quilts before either, and have it on my to-do list. I am impressed with your spun intersecting seams! I never quite got the hang of that but it sure looks nice and neat. ~smile~ Roseanne

    • You made me feel better! Thank you for having such a simple project on your to-do list, too!

I recommend letting Julie Cefalu be your motivator to get it off that list and on the ‘done that’ list! I might, maybe, do this again when I am looking for quick and easy and a way to use up fabric. I can see why this makes a good charity project. 🙂

  2. Sounds like fun. Thanks for linking up with Elm Street Quilts One Monthly Goal and good luck on your project.

  3. I have never made one either, but it’s on the someday list. Looking forward to seeing how yours turns out.

    • It is fun for me to have you, and another person tell me that this pattern, that has been around a long time, is still on your someday lists! It isn’t a difficult pattern…must be that there are so many things that we want to do that the D9P gets pushed back.

I cut and pieced my blocks after work today, and I am liking this! Next up, figuring out a layout. 🙂

  4. I made one. It is fun to make. Hugs

  5. I love seeing your progress, Laura. It’s so nice to know that we’re sewing together virtually!

  6. This one is on my to do list, if I ever get my Pat Sloan finished. I have a sort out of the scrap drawer planned so maybe this is the time to cut the squares? Seeing yours gets me a little more motivated!
